Seeds

Today the students had a hands-on science lesson.

We learned about the five things that plants need to grow (water, soil, sunlight, air, and space). Ask your child if they remember what they are. Remember, they can count the 5 ideas on their fingers.

The students began a "Plant Observation Journal" today. Each week we will re-visit this journal and record our findings about how the jars/seeds have changed since the previous week.

Over the course of the next 4 weeks, we will be examining two different jars and watch what the seeds grow into. Today students were able to get a close-up look at the two seeds. They were able to hold them and look closely at them. Some students even smelled them to see what they smelled like. Students recorded their hypothesis about what they think each seed will turn into when it grows.

One seed is large and one seed is teeny tiny.

Then, each student helped to put soil into the jar and we planted a seed in each jar. We planted a few of the smaller seeds in the second jar just in case one didn't sprout.

Below are some photos from the day. Can you guess what plant the our two seeds will turn into?
