Groundhog Day & Valentine Boxes

Today we celebrated Groundhog Day!

Groundhog Day was actually on February 2nd, but since there was no school on Saturday we learned about it today.

First we read a story about a groundhog. Then, we watched a youtube video of Punxsatutawny Phil (a famous groundhog in Pennsylvania). We saw Phil and we listened as Phil's prediction was read aloud. According to Phil the groundhog, spring is coming soon!

We chatted about when a groundhog sees it's shadow, it runs back into it's burrow and it means 6 more weeks of winter. However, if a groundhog does not see it's shadow, it stays out of it's burrow and it means that spring is coming soon. The Kinders practiced acting out being a groundhog. Then, half the Kinders worked on painting their kleenex valentine boxes while the other half worked on making their groundhog masks.
