Paleontology

Check out our newest bulletin board below. Stop by our classroom to find your child's dinosaur and write-up.

Today we watched a youtube clip:

We learned and talked about paleontology. Then, the students were given a cookie and a worksheet and acted like paleontologists. Their job was to gently get the chocolate chips (we pretended they were dinosaur bones) extracted from the cookie without breaking them.

Check out the focus of these young paleontologists. This is the AM class:

Mrs. S from the office even joined us to be a paleontologist for 5 minutes! Thank you for joining us!

Dino Month

Today we began our Dino unit! There were 6 new dinosaur centres that were thoroughly enjoyed by all the students. We had the following centres today:
1. Dinosaur book making centre
At this centre students were able to create books about dinosaurs using stickers, paper, markers and dinosaur word ideas.

2. Dinosaur light table activities
At this centre students were able to play with many manipulatives and make a dinosaur scene on the light table.

3. Dinosaur painting centre
At this centre students could paint dinosaur pictures.

4. ABC fossil find centre (at the sand table)
At this centre students looked for alphabet fossils in the sand. When they find them, they can find that letter on the sheet and circle it.

5. Play-Doh dinosaur activities
At the play-doh centre, students can create dinosaur scenes, make fossils, or create their own play-doh dinosaur. They have letter imprints and plastic toy dinosaurs available at this centre to play with.

6. Paleontology centre
At this centre students pretend their are paleontologists and dig for dinosaur fossils. They use special tools like brushes, mini hammers and others.
